Yamagata is a prefecture located in the Tohoku region of Japan. The capital is Yamagata. The city is located in the Southwest corner of Tohoku, facing the Sea of Japan. All of there boundaries are marked by mountains, the city was a largest producer of cherries and pears in Japan. A large quantities of other kinds of fruits such as grapefruit, apples, peaches, melons, persimmons and watermelons are also produced by the city.
There are many attractive views and spots to visit Yamagata. Some of its popular attractions are the Temple of Yama-dera (carved into mountain side near Yamagata), Dewa Sanzan (three holy mountains that form pilgrimage for followers of shigendo branch of Shinto), Mount Take (famous winter ski resort also know for snow monster), and the Okama Crater lake or also known as Goshiki Numa (five color lake, changes color depending the weather).
